Led by fieldworker Abbey Craig with Karine Polwart and Sophie Bancroft, the Pathhead project, nestled on the borders of the historic parishes of Crichton, Cranston, and Borthwick, between 2024-2025.

Working alongside a wide network of partners and contact organisations, including Tynewater Primary School and the Pathhead Youth Project, community members engaged in a breadth of action research, including:

  • Facebook page

  • oral history interviews

  • exploring books on local history and photographic record

  • story gathering cafes

  • story gathering boxes

  • school workshops on maps & land use including map making

  • community cafe in the primary school,

  • youth project animation and film workshop

The Pathhead project culminated with productions deeply rooted in community collaboration:

  • 2 x Marvellous Maps of the area which highlight areas of importance for P5 pupils

  • posters and tea towels of the maps

  • a permanent outdoor signpost of the maps

  • A-Z crankie, film & animation documentary by the Pathhead Youth Project called “Welcome To Pathhead”

  • community concert, + influenced the making and development of a new curriculum for Tynewater Primary School about the locality.
